When People Try to Use You for Your Money: Walk Away

There comes a time when you realize that some people in your life are not there because they genuinely care for you, but because they see you as a means to an end. Whether it’s a friend, a partner, or even someone you work with, there are those who try to use you for what you have, not for who you are.

It can be painful, especially when it’s someone you’ve invested so much in—emotionally, mentally, and financially. But the truth is, people who only show up when they need something from you, and only care about what you can provide, are not truly invested in you. They may smile in your face, but deep down, their intentions are not pure. And if you think they’ll change, think again.

You can always tell when you're being used. It’s in the way they treat you, the things they say when you can't provide for them the way they expect. They never see your efforts. Even when you give all you have, it will never be enough. What they care about is what you can do for them, what you can give them—and the moment you hit a bump in the road or face a financial crisis, they’ll be the first to point out your shortcomings.

No matter how much you’ve given, no matter how much you’ve sacrificed, they will always focus on the things you can’t do—never acknowledging the countless things you’ve already done. You will find yourself blamed for every problem, every setback, every difficulty. It’s as if nothing you do is ever enough.

And that’s when you need to realize: enough is enough. The constant draining of your energy, your resources, and your mental peace is not worth it. You don’t owe anyone anything—especially when they take from you without giving anything back, not even the respect or appreciation you deserve.

In both personal and professional life, it’s crucial to recognize when you’re being used. If people are only around when things are easy, and vanish when things get tough, it’s time to walk away. You deserve to be surrounded by people who care about you for who you are, not for what you can give them.

So, when you realize that you are being used, whether by a partner, a friend, or a colleague—just walk away. Protect your peace, your heart, and your finances. You are worth more than being someone’s constant resource. Walk away from people who eat away at your energy, your money, and your spirit. Your worth isn’t defined by what you give, but by who you are.
